Commercial HVAC by city, Salt Lake and Utah County.
Local notes for facility managers in nine Wasatch Front cities: the buildings, the utilities, the permits and what to watch for preventative maintenance and repairs.
What's the same in every city
Rooftop units, boilers and split systems age the same way in Provo as they do in Salt Lake City. Every building does best with a spring cooling startup, a fall heating startup, filters on a set schedule and a written report after each visit. Most repeat repairs show up in those reports first.
What changes from city to city
- Utilities: Provo and Lehi run their own city power. Most other cities are on Rocky Mountain Power, and Enbridge Gas Utah covers gas. Rebates and outage contacts follow the utility, so check your bill.
- Permits: equipment replacement usually needs a mechanical permit from the city. Each city page names who issues it.
- Buildings: older downtown buildings in Salt Lake City, newer tech campuses in Lehi and Draper, and big warehouses in West Jordan each wear out equipment in different ways.
- Weather: buildings near the canyons often see colder nights and more wind than the valley floor.
